February Devotional: Loving Mom
_ In February, because of Valentine's Day, we are reminded of love and romance. In today's society, our boys are bombarded with an idea of what the world calls love. Scripture gives us a different picture of what love really is. The picture painted in Scripture is one of self sacrifice, not self gratification. It reminds us to put the needs of others before our own. We often think of love in the romantic sense but there is also the love of a mother for her child, a brother for his sister or a child for his mother.
In our devotional this month, we want to show the boys what love looks like between a son and his mother. It begins with respect and obedience to mom, even when emotions are high and your son wants to dig in their heels in order to get their own way. We want to offer the boys practical ways to show the right kind of love to mom. We are challenging them to pick something this month that they can put into practice daily. Some suggestions are: Putting the toilet seat down, makings sure the dishwasher is emptied before going to bed, designating a specific spot to place the TV remote instead of just leaving it wherever they want, or putting all of the clothes away when laundry is done. Mom, we are asking you to find out what your son has chosen to do this month to show their love to you. Praise them when they achieve this daily task and pray for them that they will remember it every day.
There is a great song that was released a few years ago with an important message to remember. My favorite line is this – “Love is not a feeling. No. No, it’s an act of the will.” Love is not always shown through affection but through deliberate intentions regardless of the circumstances.
When you see one of our Brother to Brother mentors during this next month, let them know how your son is doing.

March 17th:
On St. Patricks Day, we have a special event planned for the moms while the boys are attending Brother to Brother. One of our mom's will be hosting a coupon party. (About a 5 minute drive from church.) We want to invite you to come and learn some tricks from an expert in maximizing your savings using coupons. There will be no cost to attend but if you would like to bring a snack or dish to share, it would be welcome. Come prepared for an exciting time of fellowship. After all, the boys shouldn't be the ones having all the fun each month!
