Sleep? What's that?
Our July Lock-In was a great success. Out of 19 guys, only two of them got any shut-eye. For all the guys that made it through the night, we picked names out of a hat and awarded one mentor with a DVD and one boy with a CD for their achievement.
Extreme fun
We kicked the night off with some pizza and games, then headed over for an hour of Lazer Tag. While we waited our turn to play, some of the guys enjoyed the arcade and batting cages.
When we got back to the Church, we split into teams for an M&M stacking contest. You could use anything that was available but the winner would be decided by how tall the stack of M&M's was. There was a little confusion about the goal of the contest and the most creative idea was to simply hide an M&M above the light fixture. The winning team managed to win by a landslide by creating a cylinder and pouring the M&M's inside. We didn't take an actual count but the estimated winning total was 50 or more M&M's. Honorable mention goes to the second place team who used credit cards and 4 M&M's to create a stack of around a dozen.
Goals & Careers
Early Saturday morning, we sat down with the boys and talked about goals and careers. We found out that we have some very talented, ambitious boys. Some of the guys already have some clearly defined plans for their lives while others are still content to enjoy just being kids for a while. We discussed some of the steps it will take to reach their goals. We also talked about King David and what he did to prepare Solomon for the work of building the temple. We asked questions to help them start thinking about how to choose a career based on: what God's will for their life is, what they like to do and the things they are good at. The boys got some great advice from the mentors and the mentors got a peak at some of the inventors, builders and business owners that will help shape the world in the next 30 years.
Tournaments
After taking a break to wind down with a DVD, we started things up again with some tournaments. We kicked it off with a Dodge Ball tournament followed by some individual and team events.
Tournament Standings:
Corn Toss:
Team - Nico/Tony
9 Ball:

Dodge Ball:

Foosball:

Ping Pong:

Our all-time leader for the night was Nico - taking 1st place in 3 out of 5 events. Congratulations Nico!
Underground Church
One of our mentors spoke briefly about the persecuted church that some believers experience in other parts of the world. Then we got to experience a taste of it ourselves as the Persecutors (mentors) spent some time trying to round up the believers (boys) in a game of "Underground Church".
Winding Down
We chilled out the rest of the night. Some guys watched another DVD while others played basketball or pool. Finally, we cleaned up and the moms took the boys home for some much needed rest. Thanks to everybody who participated. Congratulations also goes to Jaden who spent the last month caring for his Strawberry (Cucumber) plant - good job!
